I have been working in the area of technical software support for over the last 30 years, and English is my second language. I am constantly communicating with customers either by phone, e-mail, or web interactions. However, in most recent years customers and companies have engaged in partnerships where customer satisfaction has become the industry standard. As a result, there is constant feedback from customers to our management team, who now evaluate us not only on the technical expertise of this interaction, but also in understanding, listening, courtesy, intonation, and other aspects of communication.

I have known all this time that I have a heavy accent, and I took for granted that I was OK. Thankfully I knew about Springboards. One day I got a bad report from one of my customers, although I felt her criticism was somewhat unfair--to my manager it was a big deal. Not only does our company strive for customer satisfaction, but these days, the economy also dictates that things in our line of work can be costly if customer satisfaction deteriorates.

I immediately told my manager that I would look into a training program to do accent reduction. I contacted Springboards and we started working on my issues. I am thankful because I have learned so much.
